Japanese Knotweed has a bad name—but it’s not a deal breaker if handled right.
If you’re an estate agent, mortgage broker, landlord or seller, here’s what to look out for and what to do if it shows up:
🔍 Spotting it early matters
Look out for tall, bamboo-like stems, heart/spade-shaped leaves, and fast-growing shoots—especially around fences, paths, or waterways.
📄 Got it? Don’t hide it.
Be upfront. A management plan from a PCA-accredited contractor (like Nimrod) can keep a sale on track. Lenders want to see action—not avoidance.
🏦 Mortgage brokers –
Most lenders will still lend if a treatment plan is in place, especially one with an insurance-backed guarantee.
🏡 Sellers –
Get ahead of the problem. A survey and management plan can mean the difference between a quick sale and a long delay.
