What is Tree Surgery?
Tree surgery is the process of preservation, management and safe removal of trees. Tree surgeons (arborists) typically maintain the health, safety and growth of trees.

There are several ways in which we can either remove a tree, or attend to its needs. And our extensive experience always allows our team choose the most effective and safest methods to do this.
Tree Pruning and Trimming
Dead and ill branches are removed, to improve tree health and making surrounding areas safe and secure. Branches that have overgrown or branches that are too old will be removed in order to keep the tree as healthy as possible. A well-trimmed tree not only increases the aesthetic of its surroundings but the overall safety too.
Three methods of pruning:
- Crown Thin: This is the removal of crossing, rubbing or diseased branches of a tree to allow more light through the crown. It is then important to prune to reduce the density whilst retaining a natural shape.
- Crown Lift: This involves the removal of the lowest branches of the tree increasing the clearance between the ground and the lower branches. This can be to allow access below the tree, to clear sight lines, improve views or allow light to penetrate to the ground.
- Crown Reduction: A more extensive and severe form of pruning which is generally used to reduce the weight of potentially dangerous limbs. It is also used to prevent trees interfering or damaging buildings or overhead telephone and power lines.
- Pollarding: This involves the removal of the upper branches of a tree, which promotes the growth of a dense head of foliage and branches. The tree is allowed to regrow after the initial cutting and it requires regular maintenance by pruning to manage the tree.
Tree Removal
The removal of a tree is sometimes necessary for various reasons. As a living thing, every tree has a natural lifespan or may be badly affected by disease. Methods of removal involve complete tree felling or sectional dismantling through tree climbing and controlled lowering.
Stump Removal
After felling a tree, the stump can be the most difficult thing to remove. But in some cases, it still is necessary to remove it. Although a stump can remain in the ground without causing any harm, it may still need removing if the tree is unsightly, diseased or is a hazard. Or because you may even wish to plant a new tree or construct a new building on the site.
The most efficient way of removing a stump is by using a stump grinder. This piece of equipment has a large bladed cutting wheel, which breaks down the stump and severs the roots to enable it to fully break down underground over time.
